stye


Stye (External hordeolum).
·              Is small abscess due to staphylococca] infection of the glands of Zeis..Common in patients with staph blepharititis

Clinical Features:

·              Painful swelling at the lid margin.

Complications
(i)                 Preseptal cellulitis
(ii)               Orbital cellulitis
(iii)             Cavernous sinus thrombosis

Treatment
·        Local and systemic antibiotics
·        Analgesics
·        Hot fermentation
·        Epilation of eye lash
·        Rarely incision and drainage

Internal Hordeolum
·        Is small abscess due to staphylococcal infection of the Mebomian glands

Clinical Features and Treatment is same as external hordeolum
