WHAT IS ECTROPION



Ectropion (Eversion of eyelid)
It is a condition in which lid margin is everted away from the globe.

Types:
Congenital
Acquired
(i)         Involutional  (Senile)
(ii)        Cicatricial
(iii)       Paralytic - due to fascial palsy

Clinical Features
  • Epiphora
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Keratitis


i.          Involutional Ectropion.
  • It is characterized by excessive horizontal eye lid length combined with weakness of pretarsal portion of orbicularis muscle.

ii.         Cicatricial Ectropion.
  • Caused by scarring or contractures of skin and under lying tissues

Causes:
  • Trauma
  • Burns &
  • Tumors

Treatment:
  • Surgical
