Entropion (Inversion of the eye Lid)
Entropion is a condition in which eye lid margin is turned towards the eye ball.
Types:
(1) Congenital
(2) Acquired
(i) Involutional (Senile)
(ii) Cicatricial
(iii) Spastic- due to spasm of orbicularis oculi
Clinical Features.
- FB sensation
- Congestion
- Punctate keratitis
- Corneal ulceration & Secondary infection
Involutional Entropion.
- Commonest
- Affects the lower lid
- Overriding of preseptal part over the pretarsal part of the orbicularis muscle as a result of atrophy of the tarsus and lower lid retractors.
Cicatrtcial Entropion.
- Usually caused by scarring of the palpebral conjunctiva
Causes include
- Trachoma
- Chemical burn
- Steven Johnson's Syndrome
- Cicatricial pemphigoid
Treatment
· Surgical
