Etiology and Pthogenesis
· It is caused by obstruction of the orifice of the Mebomian gland either by infection or due to unknown cause which results in accumulation of the sebaceous secretions with in the acini of the gland
· The retention of lipid secretion induces chronic inflammatory reaction around it.
Clinical Futures:
· Painless swelling at the lid margin
· Decrease_Visual acuity by astigmatism.
Treatment:
· Incision and Drainage
· Inj. Of steroid in to the cyst.
Fate of chalazion;
- May resolve and disappear
- Get fibrosed and become hard nodule
- Liquify and form a cyst
- May suppurate
- Burst through conjunctiva and present as flashy mass.
